Ute District Annual Awards Program

The Ute District Annual Awards Program for Ute District consists of the following major awards categories:

These awards are for service rendered the preceding year or, as appropriate, a number of preceding years, and are presented annually, usually in January, at the Ute District Awards Banquet. This banquet is an opportunity to recognize those individuals who help make your Scouting Program work and to support and applaud the efforts of the other individuals throughout the District who help their units succeed. All Adult Scouters, key youth and award recipients in the District are highly encouraged to attend. Nominations from units should be submitted through the unit leader or unit committee chair to the Ute District Awards Committee at any time during the year, but not later than the Ute District Roundtable on December 6, 2007 to allow adequate time for careful consideration of each nomination. Nominations can be delivered to the Council Service Center, our District Executives or members of the District Committee or District Commissioner Staff. Nomination forms are available at Roundtable; at the Council Service Center; through your Unit Commissioner; through the District Committee, the District Executive, and they're also available for download below.

Guidance for Submitting Nominations

An Adult Scouter is defined as a person who is at least 18 years of age and has a current registration in a Scouting position in a Unit or District. Nominations should be kept Confidential. To avoid any possible disappointment, PLEASE DO NOT ADVISE THE NOMINEE IN ANY WAY THAT THEY ARE BEING NOMINATED FOR ANY AWARD, thus avoiding disappointment if not selected. The individual(s) submitting the nomination will be responsible for ensuring the nominee attends the District Awards Banquet to either receive the award, if selected, or to support other award recipients. Attending the Annual District Awards Banquet is also a good way to get Adult Leaders and Chartered Organization Representatives familiar with the Annual Awards which are available so they may keep these awards in mind during the Scouting Year as they observe their unit leaders in action.

    Requirements:
  1. A nominee must be a currently registered Adult Scouter in Ute District.
  2. A nominee must have rendered exceptional service to units, youth, and Scouting. (The nature and value of "exceptional service to units, youth, and Scouting" may consist of a single plan or decision that, carried out, contributed significantly to the betterment of the Scouting experience for the youth, OR it may be an assessment of significant contributions sustained over a long period of time.) You'll know it when you see it.... otherwise.... when in doubt.... NOMINATE!!!!
  3. It is desirable that a nominee should have contributed some service to youth outside of Scouting as well.
  4. Consideration should be given to the nominee's position and corresponding opportunity to render outstanding service beyond the expectation of the duties of their Scouting position. (In other words, the Scoutmaster is expected to be at the Troop meetings, so attendance at all Troop meetings alone would not indicate "exceptional" service, however, providing the Scouts with a high quality Scouting Program; helping a significant number of the Scouts to advance and succeed in Scouting; developing a robust outdoor program of activities would indicate "exceptional" service to youth. The goal of Scouting is to help the Scouts develop Character, Citizenship, and Fitness and the success of the Scouts themselves is ALWAYS an Adult Scouter's measure of success. To be considered for these awards, a Scouter does not have to have developed and launched his own nationwide youth organization.... but rather... DONE THEIR VERY BEST to promote the Aims and Methods of Scouting in helping their Scouts succeed.)
